Experiential Learning: Learning by Doing
Aristotle once said, “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”
All our training programmes are designed to maximise the use of current and up-to-date training methodology and IT technology, so as to provide the customer with the best learning experience and, achieving the optimum value for their investment.
Invitational Experiential Education is the key and life-smith to all our programs. We want our participants to learn from experience and move out from their comfort zone, to pick up the many invaluable life skills which are only imparted by life itself, out of the usual classroom environment.
Aspiring Youth Facilitators & Trainers will learn the skills, knowledge, and dispositions central to experiential education and are provided with “in class” and “out of class” opportunities to design lesson plans, prepare presentations, and engage in activities that have direct, transferable relevance.
The course includes direct teaching; collaboration; co-negotiation; facilitating; mentoring; self-, peer-, and instructor development-oriented assessment; leadership opportunities; and coaching.
Agape’s learning philosophy is deeply entrenched in our guiding belief that every one deserve the opportunity to shine like a Star.
Through our Leadership and Mentoring programmes, we engage our participants in situational leadership activities and gain lifelong concepts and lessons of discovery, observation, learning and inspiring self and others to achieve greater heights.
Imbibing strong personal values are crucial foundations in the character development of each and every young life. Besides strong emphasis on leadership qualities, Agape believe that a holistic education programme should also focus on building the graceful attitude of sharing and giving and rekindling the candles of others through one’s positive actions for the society and the community.
This has always been at the heart of education in Singapore to inculcate values and build competencies in our youth to develop them into good individuals and useful citizens. Our programs are central to the 21st Century Competencies Framework.
Teambuilding and Organisational Development
Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision and it is the ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
Here in Agape, we recognize that the path to greatness is along with the others. Through our action-based teambuilding programme, we engage our participants in the thinking, doing and reflecting process, promoting friendship, bonding and togetherness in overcoming each and every challenge.
Key focuses such as “Conflict Management & Effective Communication”, “Team Effectiveness & Efficiency”, “Strategic Creative Thinking”, “Service Leadership”, and SALE™ – Strategic Action learning & Education were among the top 5 programs since 2010.
“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrowed it from our children” – Native American. Leave No Trace is a national and international program designed to assist outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, campers with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when they hike, camp, picnic and trek.
The programme strives to educate all those who enjoy the outdoors about the nature of their recreational impacts as well as the techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts. Leave No Trace is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set of rules and regulations.
The best example of Leadership, is Leadership by example. In Agape, we strongly believe that the successful leadership is based on the positive efforts and contributions to the community, the society and ultimately the betterment of others before self.
Our Service Leadership Education programmes seek to nurture and groom every student, every individual into useful members of the society, inculcating in them positive intentions and altruistic learning values to serve the community and the people in need.
Enticing young people to travel and see the world is one of Agape’s key strategic thrust. Youths are our future leaders. Youth are resilient, resourceful, and eager to leave home in order to build relationships with others like them. While adults muddle along on our bus tours, admiring the scenery and appreciating the architecture, youths are interacting with the culture, often by necessity, one more wrap of tape on that battered horn.
Along the way they’re experiencing and debating the social controls and problem solving within a society having different politics and a different history; they’re looking into the guts of an unfamiliar culture and acquiring a true and rounded education, skirting the perceived “dangers” by becoming fully informed through their social interactions.
