Foreword by the Chief Executive Officer
Welcome to a New Year of Exploration, Equipping & Engagement of our young people in Singapore and beyond! We spent the last few months of 2013 reminiscing and revisiting our past achievements of our 8 years. I was touched to have so many of our past youth participants becoming interns, staff and volunteers of Agape, because they believe in the work we do – why we do what we do.
We start off the new-year busy preparing for our SQM (Singapore Quality Medallion) award, and in anticipation of our launch of “Agape10” – a new logo to celebrate our 10th Birthday as well as our confirmation of Singapore 1st Professional Code of Conduct & Safety Council for Youth Training Sector.
As the demographic and profile of our youths changes, Agape recognize the need to expand our capabilities and capacity to meet these growing needs. We are in preliminary stages of master planning for program expansion for Agape Year 2020 – reaching out to 500,000 youths globally and locally, facilitating the achieving of greater self and society growth through experiential and outdoor learning.
As the theme suggests above, 2 key areas we will be investing in;
- “Youth empowerment” which is an attitudinal, structural, and cultural process whereby young people gain the ability to make decisions and implement change in their own lives and the lives of other people in school, community and country and
- “Transformation of Youth Leaders” – a process where we encourage and create platforms for our youths to be world-ready, youths of character, purpose and heart.
Our organization seeks to engage, empower and equip youths (both locally and globally) of today with the essential personal development, leadership skills as well as the appropriate character traits because we believe that personal values and characters are the key foundation and life-smith of every youth, with the hope that youths will be able to lead effectively with pride and integrity.
I am also happy to observe that the public and end users (schools, youths and parents) recognise that the strength of Agape is only good as the people whom are directly involved in it, shows that Agape is very stringent in the selection of the people associated with us. Other than the usual professional qualifications, one common trait is the fact that all our trainers are in one way or another involved actively in some form of social work. The founding members of the company are both very active volunteers for social causes. This ensures that we have under our wings people who are genuinely interested in social and youth development, and are not mere wage-earners doing a routine job.
This year we have new faces and change of management. The group is now made up of people who are passionate about what we do and professional about how we do it. Our very diverse experience and personalities enable us to offer a pool of talent, expertise and personalities to meet the requirements of our clients. We are committed to delivering powerful empowering and transforming programmes second to none.
As we launch our newsletter (both in print and e-copy), we hope that you can spend some times to read our features, plans and post event report the group will be embarking. May each new-year be greater than the year before for all of us. Let’s continue to put a smile of the faces of many we touch today!
Together we empower & transform,
